Hong Kong Jockeys
Riding horses in Hong Kong can be exciting times for Jockeys as there is an endless stream of top trainers and Group 1 races to ride in and we are going to have a closer look at some of the Jockeys who thrive on success and pressure. There are certain jockeys around the world and in Hong Kong that have proved themselves to be the best and we have picked out just a few for you to follow closely when making your Hong Kong bet.
Douglas Whyte
Douglas Whyte is in a class of his own when it comes to Hong Kong Racing as he has been the Champion Jockey in Hong Kong for the past nine years which is an unparalleled record. Whyte was born in South Africa but like many jockeys from that country he tried his hand in Hong Kong and has gone onto break every record in the book in Hong Kong including being thee first Jockey to ride 1000 winners in the country. Whyte rode 112 winners in one season in 2005/06 which is a record that still stands and he is the only man that can get anywhere near that number, in 2008/09 Whyte rode 96 winners which was comfortably the best. He has won nearly all the big races including the Hong Kong Gold Cup, the Stewards Cup and the QEII Cup among many others and we recommend that punters keep a close eye on any mount of Douglas Whyte.
Brett Prebble
Brett Prebble is an Australian born Jockey who has made the big breakthrough over in Hong Kong in recent years and looks set to continue having more success in the coming seasons. 2008/09 saw Prebble make a big breakthrough when he came in second in the Champion Jockey standings with a fantastic 79 winners as he remained consistent throughout the season. Prebble has won top races like the Hong Kong Derby in 2007 and the Hong Kong Sprint in the same season to really announce his name on the Hong Kong circuit. Prebble looks set to continue to be involved in all the biggest races over the coming seasons and any horse that he rides should always be strongly considered by punters.
Darren Beadman
Darren Beadman is considered by many to be the greatest Australian Jockey of all time as he has broken almost every record out there for an Aussie and is still going strong and is a regular winner in Hong Kong. Beadman won just about every big race in his homeland including the coveted Melbourne Cup so decided to try his hand in Hong Kong and he just kept on riding winners. At one stage Beadman quit as a Jockey and became an ordained Minister but he was not able to stay away long and he is now the retained jockey for top trainer John Moore. Beadman is one of the most experienced jockeys out there and with him and Moore forming a considerable partnership he looks to be going from strength-to-strength.
