Hong Kong Gold Cup

The Hong Kong Gold Cup is the second leg of the prestigious Hong Kong Triple Crown but is also a big race in its own right with big prize money on offer to the victor. The Gold Cup is ran over the 2000 metre distance on turf at the Sha Tin Racecourse where it has been held since 1979 and in that time it has been won by some top horses.

The race itself is available for three year olds and over and often attracts some of the top thoroughbreds in the world. Perhaps the most famous winner of the race was River Verdon who won the Hong Kong Gold Cup a toal of three times with the win in 1994 coming on the way to the only Hong Kong Triple Crown ever achieved.

More recently it has been Viva Pataca who has won back-to-back Hong Kong Gold Cups in 2008 and 2009 and he went onto win the Champions and Chater Cup in 2009 which meant he won two of the three Triple Crown legs.

With the Hong Kong Gold Cup coming as the second leg of the Triple Crown the winner of the Stewards Cup is more than likely to take his chance here with the Triple Crown carrot dangling in front of them. The Hong Kong Gold Cup Odds will be full of top horses who will all be looking to win one of the biggest races not just in Hong Kong but in the world.
