Happy Valley Racecourse

Happy Valley is the older of the two  Racecourses in Hong Kong and it is located in the Happy Valley area of the city and is famous for the sky scrapers that engulf the edge of the facility. It was built in 1845 a place for the British to watch Horse Racing and over the years quickly became one of the most recognizable tracks in the Horse Racing world and these days it is an all turf track.

Night Races have become somewhat iconic at Happy Valley as the bright lights of the track light up the night against the city and the course appears as the only piece of flat greenery in the city. The Grandstand offers some stunning views of the city as well as an excellent view of the track itself. Happy Valley also contains the well known Hong Kong Jockey Club Archive and Museum which offers a complete history of Racing in Hong Kong and is a popular attraction for race fans.

Happy Valley has suffered a fair bit in recent years since Sha tin Racecourse was renovated as most of the major races in Hong Kong now take place down the road at the 85,000 capacity Sha Tin. However, Happy Valley still plays hosts to some excellent racing and is becoming well known for its good mid week cards under the spectacular lights on offer from central Hong Kong.
